The Bead Project is a scholarship program designed for creatively inclined, economically disadvantaged women. Over the course of ten classes at the UrbanGlass studios, students learn the art of glass beadmaking, simple jewelry fabrication techniques, and the entrepreneurial skills to develop a business plan. The Bead Project offers students a transformative experience, new tools for self-expression, and the skills to turn glass bead making into a viable form of income, while becoming a part of a dynamic creative community.  The Bead Project is currently delayed due to Covid-19. Applications are being accepted for interest in future semesters.

40th Anniversary for Urban Glass & the 20th Anniversary of the Bead Project founded by Annette Rose-Shapiro.

The documentary about the Bead Project was produced by a BRIC trained community producer, Beryl Benbow. Beryl was a candidate in BRIC Arts Media's Documentary Intensive progam and a participant of the 2016 Bead Project. She was inspired to produce the documentary about the bead project because she experienced a well put together, wonderfully creative and well orchestrated training program that instructed the process of flameworking glass into beads and jewelry. Beryl felt even stronger about bringing this wonderful program to the forefront in film media with it celebrating its 20th anniversary. She hopes that more people will be made aware of this jewel in Brooklyn and that more people will be happy to donate to it's cause.  https://youtu.be/_otHNsC7gKY
